Tonight I got to photograph my best friend, Carissa’s, mother’s wedding. It was a small, intimate affair in their new home and I wanted to share this image of Carissa holding her Mom’s flowers and rings! LOVE IT!

Happy New Year! I’ll be leaving town until Tuesday and will return mail as soon as I come home.

Hope you are enjoying Holiday Weekend #2!! Wanted to share a little about my amazing Christmas that was celebrated in the US! Yess! We drove to Cincinnati per our usual to stay with family and let the good times roll.

_dsc5672.jpg

Sara landed a new iPod…me, some new covers for my Shootsac (that nifty bag I shoot with), GPS for no longer getting lost, cord keepers, battery organizers (nerd, I know), AA batteries, a memory card..this list goes on and on. Mom got a point and shoot camera (the previously suggested one!), Abby a new cell phone and Dad a neat horse painting. Pretty much, it was great!

_dsc5658.jpg

You may remember my twin cousins from previous posts. This year they were four for Christmas - so much more aware of what was going on. Sometimes they’re a little shy…

_dsc5516.jpg

Other times, not so much…

_dsc5534.jpg

Enjoy your New Years festivities! I will be out of the office, and away from the email until January 2. Don’t drink too much…

_dsc5561.jpg

:-) By the way…Dane informed us, “this kid’s wine (sparkling cider) is great - get me more, fast.”

In about 5 hours we will wake up, shower and head to the Cincinnati airport to start our journey to Belize (weather permitting). I am traveling with Mom, Dad and my two sisters for a week of fun in the sun. Those of you waiting on holiday orders, they will be in your mailboxes soon - don’t stress!

Please note that I will not have phone reception and may have little internet, but will do my best to return any and all correspondence that I can. Thanks for your understanding and enjoy the holidays.

Love this photo I borrowed from National Geographic - maybe I will have some of my own to post upon my arrival! I am so excited!! A perfect ending to an amazing year and a tough semester.

.SCHS.banquet.

Posted on December 14th, 2007 by Elizabeth. Filed in .personal., .rocket.football.

As the fall comes to a close, unfortunately so has the football season for SCHS. This Wednesday night I made a quick trip home to photograph the Rockets’ end-of-the-year banquet. I’m almost as sad as they are that the season is over! It was a long, emotional journey for the team as they tied state records, broke school records and went further than they had previously been.

After the first couple of games of photographing, I was worried they would never let me in to their experience- would never stop “performing” for the camera and just forget I was around. Just the next week, the boys relaxed, started talking about their coaches in front of me and let me photograph their weakest moments, totally unguarded. And for that, I am so very thankful. The coaches led by example, providing access, and acting as if I wasn’t around. Thanks so much for paving the way for the authentic images the boys let me make.

Back to the banquet. The chicken was great and Claudia Sanders as accomidating for ever, but it was the huge number of folks in attendance that amazed me. So many moms and dads, friends and family that the entire room was full. I got to show my projects to the boys, cheerleaders and coaches - and hand out some images, but the best part came at the end.

After seeing an image of her son, a mom at the banquet asked me why I took the time to drive home week after week to photograph the Rockets. She confessed to following the blog - and was super glad I was around to document the season - especially for the games she couldn’t attend.

I wasn’t sure what to say at first, because from the start of my project, it wasn’t clear to me in what direction the piece would go, where the focus would be and how I could use it in my classwork. I just had a feeling that it was a good place for me to be each Friday night, and whatever came of it, I was sure I could use it in some form or fashion, if for nothing else, the shooting experience.

After about two seconds of thought, the best response I could give was that this community has always embraced and encouraged me as I grew up, shared my opinions and started a business. Photography is the best way for me to thank and support others, thus my attendance with the black box.

Last, to answer an easier question posed by Coach Shipley: Yes, I will be making a few trips home each season to take in a fall Rocket Friday through my lens, so long as I am allowed. This year made the fifth season I have photographed the team. My junior and senior years I photographed for the yearbook and the first two years of college, I attended one game each season. This year, I clearly raised the bar on attendance and plan to continue the journey next year.

Enjoy these images from the banquet - I hope you can feel how connected they are to one another.

As Lizzie Loo grew tons this year, my parents came in (as usual) to provide tons of support. So much support that they gave me a room in our home to convert into an office.

After three to four coats of white paint, much debate over furniture, discussion which photos to hang where and how many outlets were located where I needed them, the room is nearing completion and really coming together. Only one more wall to complete before it’s time to hang the photos and bring in the electronics.

I can hardly wait to revamp the way Lizzie Loo works - from consultation to image viewing - it’s going to be so great and all thanks to this room!

Here is a mock up of ‘the last wall’ I made up last night. The gray space is my computer, the large photo: a flat screen and the huge black box: the doorway.

I am so excited and wanted to share something about our hard work!!! Thanks to each of you who helped make this necessary and continue to support Lizzie Loo - I LOVE IT!! I really do have the best job ever!

Just turned in my last final - and I am beginning to pack for home and vacation (yes, the 16th-22nd I will be unavailable). Being that finals are over I finally got to turn in my football piece. Wanted to share the final images with you. Some have been posted before, others haven’t - but I hope you enjoy this.

Stay tuned today as I break a record for “most posts in one day” (hopefully). As thanks to those of you who experienced “life on the back burner” during the semester, I am going to do a recap of my class projects - and a few of my favorite Christmas Presents to give.

Oh, so much to blog - so little time to do it in.

Also, a few images from the SCHS football team’s end-of-season banquet are coming. Get excited!

If you don’t get an A–your teacher has lost their mind! I love all the pictures from the football story

Although it has been a bit since our trek to Northern Kentucky, I see so much merit in posting these final images from the Shelby County Rockets’ 2007-2008 football season. The Rockets fell 45-35 to Boone County, but managed to fight the entire game. I think Coach B summed it up best, the fans always supported and believed in the Rockets, as did the boys have much belief in themselves. Not until the final seconds of the game did anyone stop fighting for the win. I was super impressed with the turnout and am pretty sad it’s all over.

On a brighter note, this week I turned my Coach Cottrell story in for class, and although it hasn’t been graded, some of my classmates remarked that it was the perfect coach story, field curriculum and illustrative of George in every facet. Needless to say I was super pleased with its reception and can hardly wait to turn in my final project, an essay on the Rocket’s pursuit for success.

Not much football commentary to offer this week, enjoy!

Not amazing, but I love how Coach Shipley seems to be watching over them. And the scoreboard light is perfect on their backs.

So the night didn’t end as planned, but by nature, I kept shooting. Wanted you to know I cleared all of these images with the players prior to posting them. I know there are quite a few, but I feel they each have merit, therefor I’ve posted lots. It was an emotional loss - but a loss that didn’t come without a fight. Thanks boys for being so open with your experience.

As the clock ran out. They always supported one another.
