Up at 8 am, drive to Mayfield….unpack
Though I am doing my best to keep up with blogging this workshop, I am going to get behind because we are SOOOOOOO busy. I am storing my images, toning and editing for the blog, I just haven’t much time to commentate - which I totally think is necessary. So here we go…moving day.
We were to arrive at school for a departure of 8 am…we left at 9, needless to say.
Alex drove the equipment truck, Mandy helped track down late sleepers.

It was a little chilly….this is my rendition of homeless Inge.

And hairy Inge….shooting while we were driving.

Mandy in the back, Inge on the right, me shooting and driving.

Yes, she’s wild…stuck her head out the roof.

Little Miss Betsy (yes, mom this is the Betsy whose mom we met at the horse show).

Around 30 of these we brought from school.

Alex, the fearless van driver.

Tanner, the manner.

Bringing in our ‘bulletin boards’ for picture editing.

Moving the Canon video camera trunks in.

Apple sent over around 40 of these bad boys. How generous :-)

And Alyssa, taking a break at the end of a long day…right after dinner…and then we worked for 4 more hours :-)

I am shooting tons and learning a lot - who da thunk that coming as a labbie (helper) I would get to shoot AND learn. Lucky me…and lucky you if you’re enjoying this amazing weather. Hope all is well where you’re reading from.
Packing it all up!
Friday afternoon all of the labbies - a group of 15ish students who come to workshop to work, organize, help and learn - including myself gathered to pack our huge Penske truck full of tons of expensive gear. Lamps, cameras, camcorders, computer towers, tape, pencils, cords, wires, velcro…you name it, we packed tons of it. We knocked out our task led by our fearless leader, Justin (a graduate of the program, bottom left in the green), in about two hours.
Here we are all post-pack. Thanks to Jake Stevens for this picture.

This is what I think about packing…and tests…and little sleep…and editing…and prints…and school…and photo…and doing my hair…hah. Thanks Jake.

Kellie and Mandy pulling out the ramp on the truck.

The boys putting in the first item. It’s officially begun :-)

One of my besties…Mandy - she, Inge and I are staying together in the super classy Days Inn of Mayfield.

This is Inge….I swear she’s sweet - just not when packing lamps into a hot, smelly truck.

A few of the thiry computers we brought from school.

Jake…wasn’t a labbie, didn’t have to pack…but helped anyway. I love my WKU photo fam…everyone is so fabulous :-)

And last a photo Alex Fortson shot of Alyssa - the brave driver of the 15-passenger labbie van.

So that’s the scooop….we packed, and we all went our separate ways to finish CPOY (College Photographer of the Year) entries, pack our own belongings and get a night’s sleep…or try anyways. Next up…arriving (on time) at 8 am Saturday morning and driving to Mayfield.
Hoetown Time
…And yes, I made it Mayfield and we’re working our tails off. I will try to get some images together and up for you to see. We are in the process of cleaning the top two floors of the town’s bank and wiring it with miles of ethernet cable. I would guesstimate around 100 apple computers, fifty plus cameras and a jillion dongles….AND I learned what a dongle is. Anywho - we’re having a blast and working hard - I’m super excited for the participants to get here.
This image is from a hoedown I shot for class a few nights ago at a local elementary school.
Enjoy your Sunday - it’s beautiful outside here.

Getting Caught Up
Early Saturday morning I will be traveling to Mayfield, Ky. with some of my best friends to attend the Mountain Workshops again. You can check out last year’s site here - it’s a pretty amazing thing.
I plan to blog throughout the whole shindig…so get excited - I am. This year I will not be a participant, rather a labbie. My roles….well they vary, and pretty much involve helping out where I am needed…but more on that later.
For now, know that today I am tying up lots of loose ends - so don’t be suprised if you get a call from me. I also think I have fall family sessions available - so be sure to pay attention and get in quick, as there are only a few spaces open and once they’re gone - they’re gone.
I hope all is well where you all are - it is a beautiful Kentucky morning here, and I am off to my class. It’s so nice to start the day early - I’ve already cleaned out my email box, tended to my filthy car and started drafting many blog posts for later days.
For now, here is a photo I shot this week of a father and son. Once every two weeks these two get to see one another under supervision. The father hopes to regain custody this month - but until then, they meet at this park, swing, catch up and bond…can I just say I love where my job takes me? It’s pretty amazing.

Practice makes for winning
Last week I began a my coach story on the head coach of the bears football team. Here are a few favorites from last night.

Southern Kentucky Team Penning
They were penning in teams. They’re not life-changing…but they’re what I’ve been up to.

I really like this one….really just because the horse is kicking and it says danger. I dunno. I still like it.

Franklin Festival on the Square
Here is a shot from this weekend - a lady making glass beads. She was doing her demonstration in the local gallery of my most favorite town here, Franklin, Ky. Hope your day is swell.

Doggie Dunk
From last weekend. Not Leila, but a Leila-dog.

And a picture one of my classmates took of me while there.

Demolition Derby
Can I just say that I am sooo obsessed with demolition derbies? This is my second one for the season and both times they have been a wealth of personality, cool faces and sweet people. These are all from my favorite county down here, Edmonson. Hope you enjoy them! Very busy here - a deadline assignment for class at the evening’s high school football games. I will explain when I post the images. Hope all is well where you are…and if you’re waiting for pictures, I’m working on them right now :-) Thanks to everyone who is very patient and understanding. School demands a lot of my time and I squeeze the rest in when I can - so thanks again!

This fellah couldn’t remember if he was four or five. I think we finally agreed he was five.

A family from the Hart County Demo Derby this summer. Love. Them.

I’m obsessed with this picture. Much more so than the first one. What a sweet moment.

And a picture of my wonderful friend, Mandy, who tagged along all day, though she didn’t have any assignments due - gotta love that. What great friends I’ve been blessed with. Enjoy your weekend…and your sweet friends.

Edmonson County Football
We had to shoot a single for class that says coach…unfortunately nothing that anyone had to offer was good enough…but I like some of mine enough to share them with you.

Happy Wednesday to you…I’m off to take a philosophy ethics test. YUCK-O.
I see you in the “eyes” of Alex. Glad you are finding time to post and take us on this journey with you.
