Some of my FAVORITE ladies.
Last night I made a stop by Shelby County High School’s Prom. Many of you know my long-legged sister, Sara, on the right. Lizzie Loo’s summer intern, Corie, in the middle and Amanda-Baranda (as my father has dubber her) on the left. All three were Lizzie Loo seniors getting ready to graduate soon. More prom in a little bit. Check out all the arm-crossers on the left side of the frame. Prom really brings out the arm-crossing in people….weird.

More 2008 Senior Ladies
More ladies from last season. Many of you are busy graduating/studying/taking finals. Best of luck to you all – I’m right there with you.
First, a photo of a new friend of mine. I don’t know his name, he doesn’t understand mine. He speaks a tribal language. I don’t. But his beautiful insides I can see right there in his bright eyes. I do know that he is from “Af-rique” … AKA Africa. He was bicycling with a friend when he fell off and cut his leg on a few broken beer bottles. I’m pretty sure they were talking about me when the laughter you see on his face began. Good news – a band-aid seems to be universal…NEOSPORIN is not. They were scared of it. Anywho, enjoy your day, and take the time to rejoice in something simple. That’s what being 10 will teach you. Simplicity. And unrelenting happiness.

And one of my beautiful best friends, Julie. Thinking of you maim :-)

Ohhh, today. You were beautiful.
Every day after school is over, I head over to the housing authority and run around with my girls. We run to the neighbors and buy frozen Kool-aid pouches for a quarter, we roll in the grass and practice cheer leading. We really just have a good time and enjoy ourselves. My little girls are absolutely the most beautiful and sweetest good little people you could meet. I learn so much from them each day and enjoy so much their excitement over a scoop of ice cream or a litter-free sidewalk. Meet some of my girlfriends….Laura and Jacqueline. They’re the sweetest.

And this fellah told me that he was hunting his brothers like his mom and dad. I’ve got to work harder for some further explanation here.

These boys were trying to blind me with their mirror. And they proceeded to explain to me for 20 minutes about what refraction…errrr….reflection is and how and why it works. It was very interesting but mostly entertaining. Reaaallll entertaining. Wish you could have been there – they teach me so much.

Allie’s Graduation Postcard
This is the front of Allie’s graduation party invitation. Will be printed on a watercolor paper postcard with the invite details on the back. Enjoy!

Girls Project
For the semester I have been spending lots and lots of time with a group of girls in Bowling Green. They are elementary school girls that I have been working to develop a project on. No pictures have made it to the blog until today, because I am still unsure of what I think about the project. It started out at Girls Growing Up too fast, morphed to children in poverty back to educational disparity and now to I’m not really sure what.

All I do know is that I have had a lot of fun with the girls I am photographing. We sit and talk, play on the playground and learn from one another. Yesterday I swung and talked with one of the girls for at least an hour about what she can be when she grows up. Today my buns and legs are paying the price – oh well. We’ve been doing our homework together, talking about boys and sharing peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Most of the girls live in section 8 housing, a community I wasn’t always soo fond of. The more I learn about these little ladies, the more I see their resiliency and their genuine hope to be strong, productive women. I am learning that you really can become a product of your community, if and only if you never see anything past your little circle of friends. My hope for these girls is that they will see just out of their community and learn that there is a whole world for them to explore.
For now we’re working on their camera skills…here is a photo 5th grader Sara took of me. I made a print of this and they think it is absolutely the most hilarious thing they have ever seen. Enjoy this pretty day – I’m off to the playground.

Allie’s Graduation Announcements
Wanted to share an invite I am working on this evening. There is still time to get yours ordered. (FYI: Personal info. is always altered before we blog, thus the day of May 00) Hope your week is going well. A baby and a bit of my project to hit the blog soon.

Katelyn + Blake
At freshman orientation two years ago Blake spied Katelyn from across the room. He and his friends whispered to one another about the cutest freshman girls. Little did he know, Blake was making specific mention of Katelyn to his buddies while sitting right behind her parents.
He was a football player, Katelyn a cheerleader. During Katelyn’s orientation at Campbellsville they were playing a seek and sign game where the freshman had a paper with characteristics to have signed off on. Blake came over to sign the slot for playing a sport or something similar. Katelyn quickly said she had that space completed, but thanks. Witty, per his usual, Blake responded that he could speak a foreign language … “Hola.” The rest is history.
Last weekend they tied the knot. Their families melt together flawlessly. I couldn’t tell one side from the other. The Allens adore Blake and his brothers. The Lawyers feel that Katelyn is the perfect addition to their crew and every single one of their guests that packed into First Baptist last Saturday could feel that shared love.
Thanks so much for inviting me to your special day. I love how love-filled it all was. You all have so much support and so much adoration for one another.
And for the record, I’m still requesting a reserve on Sherry’s wedding planning skills for my wedding day (a long, long way from now – calm down). There were even Blake and Katelyn coloring books – are you kidding me? Enjoy!

Blake’s grandmother was a hoot – this was their idea of ’something different.’

I can’t stop looking at this next photo. We stopped to grab a quick photo of Blake’s grandparents after we took a few other family shots outside. I asked them to look at me and he did for about one frame. After that he couldn’t take his eyes off his own bride. I promise you things like this happened all day long. It was like a big love-fest. Sweet :-)

These mothers were in the same condition as I was. It really was just so beautiful. By the way, that’s Katelyn’s father marrying the two.

Two Someones tied the knot this weekend…
Wowzers – I keep crying while I’m editing because this weekend’s wedding was super-sweet. For now you’ll have to do a little (really easy) guessing as to who it was. Enjoy your Monday and check back!

Shooting at the salon with my teal shoes…and I matched the ceremony quite well :-)

I’m sure I said something absolutely hilarious right before this picture was taken…well, maybe.

Seniors…Seniors…Seniors
Home and catching up on school, I shot a beautiful wedding this weekend and a sweet baby girl. Keep watching the blog for images this week! Hope you get your last taste of winter with this crazy cold snap.
For now, some high school senior ladies from last season.

Happy Friday!
Packing my bags to get home today. Katelyn and Blake get married tomorrow and there is a baby to photograph this evening. Here is an image of sweet Taryn from last years high-school senior season.

Looking so pretty and grown up. I laughed so hard when I noticed the arm crossers! Funny!
Can’t wait to see the other prom photo’s.
