Just turned in my last final – and I am beginning to pack for home and vacation (yes, the 16th-22nd I will be unavailable). Being that finals are over I finally got to turn in my football piece. Wanted to share the final images with you. Some have been posted before, others haven’t – but I hope you enjoy this.
Stay tuned today as I break a record for “most posts in one day” (hopefully). As thanks to those of you who experienced “life on the back burner” during the semester, I am going to do a recap of my class projects – and a few of my favorite Christmas Presents to give.
Oh, so much to blog – so little time to do it in.
Also, a few images from the SCHS football team’s end-of-season banquet are coming. Get excited!

Yessss. It’s over!!!!
.SCHS.vs.Boone.County.
Although it has been a bit since our trek to Northern Kentucky, I see so much merit in posting these final images from the Shelby County Rockets’ 2007-2008 football season. The Rockets fell 45-35 to Boone County, but managed to fight the entire game. I think Coach B summed it up best, the fans always supported and believed in the Rockets, as did the boys have much belief in themselves. Not until the final seconds of the game did anyone stop fighting for the win. I was super impressed with the turnout and am pretty sad it’s all over.
On a brighter note, this week I turned my Coach Cottrell story in for class, and although it hasn’t been graded, some of my classmates remarked that it was the perfect coach story, field curriculum and illustrative of George in every facet. Needless to say I was super pleased with its reception and can hardly wait to turn in my final project, an essay on the Rocket’s pursuit for success.
Not much football commentary to offer this week, enjoy!

I never get sick of this shot.

Halftime.

Not amazing, but I love how Coach Shipley seems to be watching over them. And the scoreboard light is perfect on their backs.

It was absolutely FREEZING! Not that you can tell.

So the night didn’t end as planned, but by nature, I kept shooting. Wanted you to know I cleared all of these images with the players prior to posting them. I know there are quite a few, but I feel they each have merit, therefor I’ve posted lots. It was an emotional loss – but a loss that didn’t come without a fight. Thanks boys for being so open with your experience.
As the clock ran out. They always supported one another.

I am absolutely in love with this because Jordan Burk’s (right) mother is in the bottom left hand corner, crying too.

Thanks so much for always allowing me into your experiences and staying unaware, despite my clear presence. I can hardly wait to see you all at the banquet…I have a few surprises, so get excited. (I’m sure you already are…

Stay classy :-)

Football photos are on their way. Many have asked, so they will even be up in the system for purchase! Get excited – there are tons of them, but currently I have a cold kicking me in the buns, and two photo stories due tomorrow. Thanks for your patience!!

Good luck this evening! I am in Boone County land posting from the local Panera, so don’t mind the stinky color these images may have. My laptop isn’t the editing and toning machine it once was!
Anywho, tonight the Rockets face Boone County in Florence, Ky. for the regional championships – just one more step in their journey to state. I’m sure everyone is reading this as they pack their cars for the game :-). I hope to see lots of Rocket moms, dads and friends out tonight sporting their long underwear and cowbells!
Here are some images from the boys’ practice on Thanksgiving. Yep…Thanksgiving (by the way, I hope yours was great – more on mine later). These boys are so dedicated – and I think Coach Shipley said it best, “We are thankful to be one of a handful of teams who get to practice football on Thanksgiving.” The boys dined on doughnuts pre-practice and seemed to be content despite the chilly winds and muddy field. See you tonight!
Coach Lucas preps the offense.

The boys keeping warm. They’re always entertaining :-)

I’m pretty sure this was in reaction to Coach Lucas saying, “Now boys, if you’ll remember we haven’t beat anyone by 70 points, as we planned, so lets get that done tomorrow night.” Oh the pressure….glad I’m just the photographer.

Cuddling to stay warm, while Coach Shipley gave his Thanksgiving speech.

The field was pretty yucky.

I’m sure you’ll do ‘whatever it takes’ to rock the Boone County scoreboard! See you there!

.SCHS.vs.Madison.Central.
Your Shelby County Rockets traveled to Richmond, Ky., home of the Eastern Kentucky Colonels (ewwww), this Friday night for what turned into quite the football game.
The Rockets left with the Class 6A District 8 title after beating up on Madison Central 37-20. OK – maybe not a beating, but certainly a bruising! I haven’t seen these boys so excited in a while – they were crazy…and though their coaches may deny it, they were pretty excited themselves.
I hope you enjoy this batch of images – I know it’s a ton, but I love to include as many as I can – it’s my little way of thanking the team for letting me share in their experience.
Check in soon for a little from the Rocket’s preparation: Thursday’s Thanksgiving practice – yep – they’re practicing on Thanksgiving…and so am I.
I hope to see you all at the game Friday. I’ve said it many times; if there ever was a time to support your Rockets, it’s now! They sure could use and would love all of your encouragement at the game Friday. We’ll play Boone County (9-3) in Northern Kentucky this Friday night. Meet you there!
For now, enjoy my award-winning football commentary (I hope you caught my sarcasm :-)) and images.
A little prayer with Kyle Marston.

If I was on the Madison Central team…I would have been a little nervous.

Coach Lucas.

Notice all of the socks – if you’re coming – dress warmly. It’s a long, chilly night of excitement!

LOVE him!

A little Burk warm-up.

And a little joking around.

I love the quiet confidence here.

Coach Cresap.

A Nakatani kick!

I know I’m breaking the rule…but this is such a great moment. I couldn’t resist.

What I love about this team compared to others I’ve photographed is their ability to encourage and excite one another. They really are friends and are in this not just to win – but to work together. If I was a Rocket mom (or coach), I’d be real proud :-)

Half-time hype!

Nice.

Crazy Cresap :-)

Sometimes they get a little too fired up.

And frustrated…

Coach Dallas.

LOVE THIS!

LOVE THIS MORE!!!! Check out Tomas on the right.

Spreading the word…to the wifey, I think.

Our locker room was placed perfectly (for me) right next to theirs.

And this is when Coach Shipley reminded me of our no-photos-of-him deal. I just love Coach Cottrell with the trophy and the girls with their Madison Central bags. It’s OK to be jealous of SCHS’s trophy.

Once the boys made is back to Shelbyville, the buses passed up the high school exit, and drove to the other side of town. They met up with some police, the equipment truck and lots of Rocket fans for a police escort through town. It was late, and town was quiet, but they yelled, screamed and honked just the same.

OK, Rockets – my charge to you. Let this be all Boone County sees – a blur of Rocket football! Good luck! I can hardly wait to document your win!

Just a tease..again..I just got back to school and must prepare for class tomorrow. I will post the whole she-bang tomorrow, after class.
This weekend, my assignment was teenager…so I followed Elizabeth Shemo. Here she is congratulating boyfriend, Alex Matthews after the fabulous win. Thanks for letting me into your lives :-)

Coming soon! Just as soon as all of my memory cards download and I get a little shut-eye! Stay tuned – it’s so exciting!

For the past few weeks I have been shooting a story on Shelby County Football Coach, George Cottrell. I have had the best time! I’m not a big sports shooter – but the relationships and excitement present in this team make it worth my while and then some.
This Friday the rockets face Scott County once again in their first round of the playoffs. Unfortunately, I can’t be around to cheer them on and document their win (:-)), so I wanted to give them my best wishes in the most extensive blog post ever.
I hope that if you haven’t made plans this Friday (or if you have, change them) you would hop in your car and take a trip to Georgetown, Ky. to support our Shelby County Rocket Football. It has been my pleasure to document their journey thus far, and I am sure that if you take the time to make the drive you will enjoy yourself. This years coaches have gathered a group of young men who are genuinely excited about football – and their joy makes for great imagery. Good luck boys – I know I’ll see you next week in round two! Thanks for letting me share in your opportunities!
A bit of Coach Cottrell to begin.

Watching his son, Quinten, play in the Freshman game, with son Jaron at his side.

I know this isn’t football, but I love the look on his wife’s face as George leads the choir (he’s amazing BTW) Sunday morning. It is so telling to his character and their relationship.

Pre-game meal.

A little practice with Coach Dallas.

An oldie, but goodie.

This is pretty much the case always – George cracks a joke, makes the serious face and everyone else laughs.

Rocket pride, is county wide!

He’s not this scary :-)

I wish you all lots of these moments this Friday!

George and his son.

Again at the Oldham game.

Ewwweeee…Scott County.

Coach Shipley and I made a deal that I could have more access if I wouldn’t take photos of him. Glad this was from before the deal.

Hope to see lots of this on Friday.

And none of this.

The fabulous Alice Creque from Max Performance.

I’m sure the stands will be packed like this.

Ooooooohhhhh, Jerry.

This moment brought to you by Sports Legends.

A little left over from homecoming.

LOVE this light!

I hope you all remember this speech from after the last Scott County game.

Think about this face, who got to be the happy one when it was time to shake hands…I trust that Shelby County will make him cry this week. ;-)

I’ll be praying for you! Good luck…and someone call me, so I know how it all turned out. Most important, have fun and be safe!

As many of you know I split my time between the fabulous Bowling Green, Ky. and the super-fabulous Finchville, Ky. Why? I am completing my photojournalism degree at Western Kentucky University (LOVE, LOVE, LOVE WKU!!). And I am growing to really LOVE IT! Initially I was bummed, because so much documentary work doesn’t leave lots of space for pretty and pizazz, but I’m learning how to spice it up a bit. Here is a sampling of what I’ve turned in – not all my favorites – but they show where I’ve been up to the past 3 weeks.
A little girl playing in the fountains at Cherokee Park.

Some serious roller skaters at Champs Rollerdome.

Christopher 2X organized a remembrance ceremony for Cedric Duncan. Duncan was shot to death Sept. 17, 2006, and a killer is still to be found. Shown here is Duncan’s 3-year-old and sister. A very powerful and volatile situation.

Gotta love those racetrackers.

Jerry, who walks hots for my father – he’s been around a while. He likes fish frys on Fridays, and Bingo on Saturday.

A friendly jeweler in Bowling Green, Ky.

Angela, who cut my hair – from the fabulous Bella Salon on Bowling Green.

Carolyn Spitz, owner of Elegant Occasions in Bowling Green, Ky. You’ll get to see some of her fabulous catering from a wedding I’ll be shooting this Saturday.

LOVE Mrs. Blackshear – most sincere and sprite.

My pal, and yours, Christopher 2X. You’ll be seeing lots of him – he’ll be my community activist for a week.

That’s all folks…for now! I do have some spaces Oct. 12-13-14. If you have requested times for this weekend, and I’ve been packed – get in touch! The holidays are approaching – all photos used for gifts, cards, etc. MUST be shot BEFORE NOVEMBER! Also – all galleries will be reposted for the month of November – so you can order holiday gifts! Yea!!

Just a sneak peek of what I’ve been doing. Lots and lots of shooting for school. Made this one of two teammates praying before Shelby County High School’s homecoming.

Stay tuned!
If you don’t get an A–your teacher has lost their mind! I love all the pictures from the football story
